A sector developing at high speed
The automotive industry is currently structured into major groups of final assemblers who use parts coming from a large number of suppliers and sub-contractors. Generally the heaviest industrial activities such as bodywork and the manufacture of motors are maintained as internal activities. The global production in 2010 reached 60 million private cars.

Round-up of the market
This sector is essential to the French economy. The automotive industry (car makers and equipment providers) directly employs almost 445,000 persons and generates 270,000 jobs via its purchases from other branches. More widely, including upstream and downstream sectors (distribution, repair, etc.) and the transport and service activities, this sector represents approximately 2.5 million jobs in France.
